Even When I Didn’t Know It…There Was Jesus

Have you ever had a song that just told your life story? One that immediately made you think “they could have been writing that about me”? That’s what the song There Was Jesus by Zach Williams and Dolly Parton does for me. It reminds me that throughout my life – “even when I didn’t know it or couldn’t see it” He was there.

There have been so many times I’ve been struggling or had close calls BUT…. there was Jesus.

  • When my brothers and I were in a terrible car accident that left my brother badly injured…there was Jesus.
  • When the doctor told me my baby wasn’t growing properly and I needed to be induced so they could care for him…there was Jesus.
  • When my husband was deployed to Iraq…there was Jesus.
  • When my life turned upside down because of illness…there was Jesus.

The list could go on and on, but as Zach Williams and Dolly Parton sing about here,

….In the waiting, in the searching
In the healing and the hurting
Like a blessing buried in the broken pieces
Every minute, every moment
Where I’ve been and where I’m going
Even when I didn’t know it or couldn’t see it
There was Jesus

No matter what I’ve been through in my life, I’ve always known that Jesus was right there with me. That doesn’t mean I haven’t been scared, or sad, or even angry at the circumstances I’ve found myself in sometimes, but it does mean that I wasn’t alone.

If you haven’t heard this song before, I hope you’ll check it out, and that it will encourage you to know that wherever you are, there is Jesus. You are never alone!

Do you have one of those songs that could have been written about your life? What songs remind you how very special you are and how much you’re loved? Please share!

Blessings,

~Terri

    1. Mark, I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through some tough times right now. Please know that I’ll be praying for you every day, dear friend. It’s so hard to stay hopeful and feel like anything good can come of the bad things we’re going through, but I always hold on to the promise in Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Remember — you’re never alone, and things are never hopeless.

      1. Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. Regardless of what’s happening in my life, I always have hope because I have faith that God has something planned for me.
